my friends, I'm in a funk.
I'm not liking this summer. at all.
Summer should be friends, and books, and trips to the beach.
My summer is work, and little to no time with friends (because we all work), and ZERO sun due to thirty hours a week spent under fluorescent lighting.
Just a word about work...
because of work, I'm up at six every morning and in bed by ten thirty, if not earlier. I spend approximately five hours a day sitting in my cubicle with nothing to do (meaning I only have about four hours a day of productivity... including my lunch break), during which I listen to Andrew Bird Radio on Pandora and soak up every word of cnn.com and design sponge and style me pretty. Yes, I get paid $10 an hour, but it's so boring. And don't even get me started about the people I work with... yes, they're all pleasant (for the most part), nice people who are easy to get along with. But they're engineers, and I miss spending time with my artsy, creative friends who have good taste in music and appreciate the same things that I do. That sounds incredibly selfish, but it's true.
Also, I'm probably one of three women in the office who does NOT smoke.
all of this to say... please text me at work. and if you can hang out on a week night, let's do it because I'm DYING for quality time with all of you.
moving on...
A couple of nights ago, I watched the movie Bright Star. It was probably one of the most beautiful, breathtaking, heart wrenching movies I've seen since Pride & Prejudice, mainly because the hot HOTT Ben Whishaw played the role of John Keats. I mean - who doesn't want to spend two hours of their life listening to this beautiful man read poetry in a Brittish accent? That's what I thought...

in closing, aside from the occasional wonderful movie, this summer is boring, I miss Auburn, and I'm trying to find ways to make my life more interesting until August. All suggestions are more than welcome, but until then, I'm counting down the days until I move back to Auburn. Literally:

I think we need to watch this movie together.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry your summer is boring. I think it's because we're all growing up and have to get big kid jobs...there's still fun to be had. Let's go to urban this weekend, and of course date night. Let's pick a random city and go on a roadtrip one weekend. Yes?
Emily, I would love to watch this with you. You would love it. As a matter of fact, it's stuck in our blu-ray player. I guess that's convenient.
ReplyDeleteI have to work at the store on saturday, but the rest of the weekend, I'm all for doing fun friend things.
As for a city weekend... might I suggest Atlanta? we could do the aquarium, and shop and go eat at the varsity... or go to a braves game. Or how about Charleston? I'm down for anything. OH! or Nashville? Anywhere, really. Let's just get out of Birmingham.
I REALLY want to hang out before I go to NY for the week... but that's not looking like a possibility. I have TONS of work to get done for Residence Life before Saturday night.
ReplyDeleteBasically, I'll be running around like a crazy person until 4:00am Sunday morning (and then the real hysteria begins).
